The course is primarily aimed at people who are considering becoming beekeepers, but is open to anyone with an interest in honeybees. The people who run the course are all experienced, enthusiastic beekeepers and members of Chalfonts’ Beekeeper’s Association.

There are six classroom sessions plus practical sessions at our club apiary and a “honey extraction” day in the late summer.

The aim of the course is to equip you with sufficient theory and practical knowledge, and confidence, to begin your beekeeping journey. We always advise that you spend time in the association’s training apiaries before getting your own bees.

Access to the association’s training apiaries allows you to put your theoretical knowledge into
practice with live bees, learn good beekeeping management techniques and to avoid common
beekeeping mistakes. It gives you experience with different beekeeping equipment before
committing to purchase your own.

Course Summary Overview:
      • 6 classroom sessions
      • Practical sessions at our training apiary throughout the beekeeping season.
      • A honey extraction day
      • A copy of “The Haynes Bee Manual - the complete step by step guide to keeping bees”.
