About The Event

This is an important topic which is often in the news media nowadays and is of global concern. Lynne has been the ‘go-to’ person for the press recently regarding this topic and has spoken about it nationally and internationally. Any future actions by our government may have implications for all UK beekeepers and honey producers. Lynne has recently helped set up a new pressure group made up of UK beekeepers - Honey Authenticity Network UK (HAN UK) - which is calling for better information for shoppers starting with stricter labelling for honey blends.

Lynne is a Master Beekeeper, living in Somerset and has been keeping bees at Wesley Cottage for 40 years.  She is a member of Somerset BKA and also on the BBKA Exam Board.

Please Note This talk will not be recorded.

Adulterated Honey

The problem of adulterated honey is more serious than most of us would believe. Honey is a pure and natural product with health giving properties. However, there is a growing issue worldwide with honey adulteration. This means that honey fraud is now the 3rd biggest food fraud in the world. The talk will lift the lid on the how, why, and wherefore of honey fraud and the way that it impacts on the livelihoods of beekeepers around the world.

  • HONEY FRAUD – the overall term for actions intent on defrauding the consumer for economic gain. It is a crime carried out on a massive scale internationally.
  • HONEY ADULTERATION – is the addition of another substance - to honey in our case. The distinction is worth noting.
  • HONEY LAUNDERING – actions to avoid bans or high tariffs by disguising the honey’s origins.
