About The Event
Dr Kirsty Stainton is a member of the National Bee Unit, a science writer, beekeeper, and enthusiastic advocate for honeybee health. Kirsty’s work includes molecular detection of invasive pests like the Asian hornet (Vespa velutina nigrithorax) and the Small Hive Beetle (Aethina tumida), analysis of hornet diets, and exploring antiviral treatments for honeybees. She worked at Fera Science from 2016 to 2020.
She regularly writes articles about bee diseases and her first book 'A Practical Guide to Varroa Management' was published in 2022.
She dedicates the rest of her time to her 20+ honey bee colonies.
She was our guest speaker in January 2024 on Varroa Management and we are extremely fortunate to have her back again.
