The course is primarily aimed at people considering becoming a beekeeper, but is open to anyone with an interest in Honey Bees. The people who run the course are all experienced, enthusiastic volunteers who give their time freely.
The course consists of eight sessions designed to give you an understanding of the theory and practice of beekeeping. The aim of the course is to equip you with sufficient knowledge and confidence to begin keeping bees in the same year. In addition to the course we will provide you with a mentor who can guide you and help you to gain experience in your first year. We will also run practical beekeeping training sessions at our Beginners Apiary near Beaconsfield.
The course costs £80 and includes:
8 weeks tuition
optional apiary visits
membership of Chalfonts Beekeepers' Society, Bucks County Beekeepers Association and the British Beekeepers Association
insurance for up to 3 hives
a copy of “The Haynes Bee Manual” the complete step by step guide to keeping bees
In addition to monthly meetings, the Club’s facilities are also at your disposal, including a library of beekeeping books, equipment rental, discounts on equipment purchases, and practical support.
