Below are details of the 2013 Beginer’s Course.

Each year we run a course for people who want to keep bees, or want to know more about keeping bees before they make that decision.  Our Beginner’s Course, which starts in January and runs for 10 weeks includes:

    • The Chalfonts Beekeepers’ Beginners Course consisting of:
      • 8 classroom lectures, check the diary for details
        • Introduction to Beekeeping
        • The Colony
        • Frame Making Equipment – Practical Session slide show
        • Pollination and Plants
        • The Beekeeping Year
        • Queen Rearing and Swarming
        • Pests and Diseases
        • Hive Products
      • A copy of The Bee Manual by Claire and Adrian Waring

      • Two apiary sessions where you can get hands on experience, dates in the diary to the right.  Details and directions will be given to you at a prior classroom session.
      • A mentor, one of our society beekeepers, to help and provide on-going support
      • Membership of Chalfonts Beekeepers Society for the current beekeeping year
      • Attend our monthly society meetings where expert speakers will enhance your knowledge and skills in the art of beekeeping
      • Access to our comprehensive library
      • Access to the society’s equipment, available to loan to members
      • Access to the society’s ‘out apiaries’ at Maple Lodge and Chalfont St Giles
      • Make many new friends with a common interest in becoming better beekeepers
      • Purchase beekeeping equipment at preferential prices through our society
      • Membership of Bucks County Beekeepers for the current beekeeping year
      • Membership of the British national body for beekeepers (BBKA) for the current beekeeping year
      • National insurance for your first 3 bee hives for the current beekeeping year
      • Discounted entry to the annual beekeeping conference in April of the year.

Our education apiary is located at Chalfont St Giles. An apiary is a place where one or more hives are kept. Here we teach and demonstrate the art of beekeeping.

We provide opportunities and support for ongoing education for our members.
