Chalfonts Beekeepers' Society

The Chalfonts Beekeepers’ Society is centred in and around the Chalfonts villages in Buckinghamshire. Founded in 1976, the society’s objectives are to encourage beekeeping; to improve the standard of small-scale honey production and to educate beekeepers, new and old.
We are affiliated to the Bucks County Beekeepers Association (BCBKA) and the British Beekeepers Association (BBKA). There are three other associations in Bucks County: High Wycombe, Mid Bucks, North Bucks and together they host an annual Spring seminar, are present at the Bucks Agricultural Show at the end of August and combine to offer training opportunities to members across the county. The Society meets on the fourth Tuesday of most months and usually a guest speaker will give a talk on a beekeeping related topic and afterwards there is the chance to socialise over a cup of tea or coffee.
During the summer we attend the local village shows to educate the public about bees and beekeeping. We usually have an observation hive to view the bees in action; can you spot the queen bee?

We sell the honey our members have collected from their bees and also candles and other related bee items at the shows.
We hold our club Honey Show at the Chalfont St Giles Village Show on the first Saturday in September; the classes cover honey, wax products, honey cakes and there are special classes for novice beekeepers to enter too.
This is a great way to learn how to show honey and wax and often entrants go on to enter the Bucks Honey Show, usually held later in September or early October and following that the National Honey Show, held at the end of October at Sandown Park .
The Society runs two apiaries for members: one focussed on training novice beekeepers and another to offer more advanced courses. These sessions are publicised in the newsletter and emailed to members using the eR2 system, which protects members privacy and is fully compliant with GDPR.
The Society holds its AGM at the end of November each year, where the accounts are presented to the members, new committee members are elected and the prizes and cups from the Honey Show are distributed.
